A satirical edit of a popular nine pocket card storage brand emphasizing the need for physical media.

Here at The POP! Shop, we're always looking for ways to disrupt the tabletop ecosystem and streamline your gaming experience. Recently, we’ve been deeply inspired by the tech and video game industries, and we realized that our customers are currently burdened by a massive, outdated problem: Owning physical objects. Yuck!

Hauling your Commander decks to the shop? Storing your Warhammer miniatures? Actually holding your Disney Lorcana pulls? It's exhausting. It's archaic. 2/10 wouldn't recommend and you can trust our judgment as we're professionals.

That is why, effective immediately, The POP! Shop is thrilled to announce our transition to Cardboard-as-a-Service™️ (CaaS™️).

How Our New Licensing Model Works

Starting this Friday, you will no longer "buy" booster packs or rulebooks. Instead, you will pay a premium fee for a non-transferable, temporary license to perceive the products.

Here is how the streamlined process works:

  1. You purchase a digital license for an Attack of the Vine booster pack at the register.

  2. A POP! Shop employee will open the physical pack behind a pane of frosted glass. Clear glass can be provided for a modest, extra fee commensurate to all other lifestyle brands.

  3. We'll scan the cards and lock the physical copies in a secure subterranean vault underneath Sandusky. We're located across from Oakland Cemetery, after all.

  4. You'll be provided with a QR code. When scanned, it allows you to look at a low-resolution JPEG of your cards on your phone.

Dynamic Meta Updates & Revocations

The best part of CaaS™️? Complete flexibility! If the publisher decides a card is no longer supported, or if our licensing agreements change at 2:00 a.m. on a Tuesday, we can simply delete the JPEG from your account. Free of charge to you as epic customer service demands of an iconic business. You don't even have to think about it let alone want it!

Imagine the thrill of sitting down for Friday Night Magic, only to discover your entire deck has been legally revoked because your subscription lapsed! It adds a totally unpredictable, rogue-like element to the local meta. No need to thank us, this is just what a good company does to its customers.

OK, take a breath. We’re completely joking.

If your blood pressure just spiked, don't worry. We are never taking your cardboard unless you willingly trade it to us.

With all the recent news about digital storefronts shutting down, video games being delisted, and digital movie libraries disappearing overnight, we wanted to take a moment to appreciate exactly why the tabletop hobby is so incredibly special.

When you buy a trading card, a miniature, or a roleplaying book from us, it's yours.

No corporation can reach into your deck box and patch your favorite card. No server outage is going to stop you from rolling dice with your friends on a Saturday afternoon. Nobody can remotely revoke your license to play a tabletop game at your kitchen table.

Physical media matters. It means ownership, preservation, and history. That blu-ray disc you were looking for? It's yours forever, just like your cards.

So keep building your decks. Keep painting your armies. Keep cracking those physical packs with us. The internet might be temporary, but cardboard is... er... can be forever.

(And seriously, come crack some real, physical Lorcana packs with us this Friday. We promise we won't put them in a vault.)
