The 2024 Core Rulebooks for Dungeons & Dragons have completely refreshed how we play the world's greatest roleplaying game. Keeping track of the new 5.5E rules, spells, and stat blocks does not mean you have to slow down your sessions. Enter the new line of D&D Reference Cards.
Because we're a brick-and-mortar FLGS (friendly local game store), you can get your Mage Hands on these cards before the street date! Early release through us is Tuesday, August 4, which is two weeks ahead of the normal drop. These new tabletop accessories are fully updated to seamlessly integrate with the 2024 ruleset.
The goal of these cards is as simple as opening a dungeon door... eh, scratch that. Doors are particularly finicky things in Dungeons & Dragons. Let's just say these put the game's key mechanics directly into players' hands and drastically reduce the time spent flipping through rulebooks mid-combat.
The full product line consists of eight distinct decks split into two straightforward pricing tiers. If you remember the original 5E cards, they were great for what they were, but the sizing was all over the place. This new line standardizes everything: standard card sizes for spells and items, and a massive double size specifically for monster stats.
Here's exactly what you'll find in the new catalog:
The Spell Decks
Casting a spell shouldn't require a five-minute pause to read a paragraph. The new Spell Reference Cards are broken down into three separate decks based on spell levels. You can pick up the Level 0 to 1 deck, the Level 2 to 3 deck, or the Level 4 to 5 deck. These decks feature the full text of the spells alongside helpful new icons and color coding. They are the perfect tool to help players plan their turns in advance.
I'm not naming names, but I'll both stress "in advance" and leave a "you know who you are" floating here.
The Magic Item Decks
For Dungeon Masters, handing out loot just got a massive visual upgrade. The Magic Item cards are split into two decks based on rarity: Common and Uncommon, as well as Rare and Very Rare. Each includes 120 pieces of brand-new artwork. With these cards, DMs can now physically hand a beautifully illustrated treasure card directly to a player! It turns a simple inventory note into a tangible, memorable reward.
The Monster Decks
Speaking of DM duties, running combat encounters is the heaviest mechanical lifting a DM does, and the new Monster Reference Cards are built to lighten that load. There are three thematic decks: Animals and NPCs, Mystical and Menacing, and Fearsome and Ferocious. These decks cover creatures from Challenge Rating 0 to 5. What makes these decks truly special is their size. They are printed on double-wide cards. One side features breathtaking monster artwork that fills the card, while the other side holds all the stat blocks and encounter info you need to run them at the table.
I wonder if a gazebo card is included?
Prepare for Launch
What all this really means is that players on both sides of the DM Screen will find these cards to be a massive quality-of-life upgrade. Remember: because The POP! Shop is part of the Wizards Play Network, you can get early access to these decks starting August 4, ahead of their wide release later in the month! You can also see the contents of each item on our New Releases page to get specifics on them.
